Rome, Florence, Madrid, Bilbao and Hamburg

On the coat-tails of such celebrated composers of the past as Albéniz, De Falla, Granados and Turina the composers Lluís Vidal and Joan Albert Amargós give their personal interpretation of ancient Spanish songs in order to breathe life into an idiom which embraces all the heat, rhythm and passion of flamenco. The extraordinary simplicity of the extracts, drawn from the popular tradition, allows a variety of readings and interpretations at the harmonic, rhythmic and more formal levels, resulting in the many technical possibilities and colour nuances available from two pianos as well as by the extraordinary energy and outstanding artistic quality of the famous spanish singer Mayté Martin. Their execution, and ardor of the flamenco itself - as a product of both Spanish and Mediterranean culture - draws values which can be appreciated by a public more and more accustomed to dialogues between differing cultures and far distant lands.

MusicART - Karneval

Katia et Marielle Labèque are world-famous as piano-duo, not only in the field of classical music literature, but also for their innovative music projects for pupils accompanied by video-artists. Herein lies the starting point of this project.

Two schools have been chosen to create artistic elements such as drawings, and sketches. These will be based on Saint Saens music and the imagined of the animals by the children. Camille Saint Saen’s Carneval of the Animals has become one of the most popular pieces for a children’s audience.

The art-workshops are led by the artist Florian Förster with the assistance of Corinna Gill. The artistic results of the children will be photographed and filmed for documentary purposes by Nina Erfle. Likewise they serve as the basis material for a short video film realized by Jérome Bosc. This film will be projected during the performance of the Carnival of Animals on the 7th of december 2006 by Katia and Marielle Labèque and the musicians of the Berliner Philharmoniker for the children who participated in the project. Parallel to the creation of the film, texts on the different animals written by Céline Morisson will be included in the film and also recited live by the children at the performance.
